New patients & your first visit
What to expect, what to bring, and how we plan your care with you.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes. New patients from South Surrey, White Rock and nearby communities are always welcome. Call us at 604-535-8835 or use the contact form on our website to book your first visit.
Book your first visitWhat happens at my first visit?
You'll fill in a few digital forms first, which takes about 5–10 minutes on your phone, tablet or our iPad. You'll then see one of our hygienists, followed by a comprehensive exam with your dentist. X-rays are taken only when they're needed, and our intraoral camera lets you see what we see on a screen.
Read our new patient guideWhat should I bring?
Please bring your insurance or CDCP details and a list of any medications you take. If you've had dental X-rays in the last 12 months, ask your previous office to share them so we can avoid retaking them.
What to expect at your first visitWill you explain my treatment options?
Yes. We go over your options, the advantages and limitations of each, the costs, how many appointments are involved and what to prioritize. You can always come back and review your plan with us again.
Read our new patient guideDo you see children and families?
Yes. We care for children, adults and seniors under one roof, from first check-ups to cleanings, fillings and looking after existing dental work.
See all treatmentsWhere are you, and is there parking?
We're at 2245 160 St #40, Surrey, BC V3Z 9N6, in the Morgan Heights plaza in South Surrey, a short drive from White Rock. Parking in the plaza is free.

Direct billing, the Canadian Dental Care Plan, and knowing your cost before treatment.
Do you direct bill my insurance?
Yes, for most private insurance plans. Your insurer pays us directly, and you pay any portion your plan doesn't cover, such as deductibles or co-payments.
Insurance & CDCP at Morgan HeightsDo you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
Yes. We participate in the CDCP and bill Sun Life directly for you.
How CDCP works with usWho qualifies for the CDCP?
The Government of Canada decides eligibility. In general, applicants have no access to private dental insurance, have filed a tax return, are Canadian residents for tax purposes and have an adjusted family net income under $90,000. Please confirm your eligibility with the Government of Canada.
Read our insurance & CDCP guideDoes the CDCP cover my whole bill?
Not always. We follow the BC Dental Association's suggested fee guide, while the CDCP pays its own fee schedule, which can be lower. The difference is your portion. It isn't a surcharge; there are simply two fee guides. We'll tell you what to expect before treatment.
Read our insurance & CDCP guideWill I know the cost before treatment?
Yes. Our front desk explains your costs, and what your insurance covers and to what extent, before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises.
Insurance & CDCP at Morgan HeightsWhat is a predetermination?
For larger treatment, we can send an estimate to your insurer or the CDCP before we begin. It helps you plan, but it isn't a guarantee of final payment, because plan rules and remaining benefits can change.
Read our insurance & CDCP guideCan I use private insurance and the CDCP together?
Generally no. Having access to private dental insurance usually makes a person ineligible for the CDCP.

For anyone who feels nervous about the dentist, and anyone who simply wants to feel more relaxed.
I get nervous at the dentist. Can you help?
Yes, and you're far from alone. Tell us how you feel when you book. We'll take things at your pace, explain each step before we do it, and talk with you about sedation if it would help.
Read our sedation dentistry guideWhat kinds of sedation do you offer?
We offer oral and IV sedation for patients with dental anxiety or anyone who wants to feel more relaxed. We start with a consultation to review your medical history, your preferences and any concerns.
Read our sedation dentistry guideHow do you keep me safe during IV sedation?
Our dentist and certified dental assistant are licensed and trained in IV sedation. During IV sedation we monitor your heart (ECG), heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen level and breathing, and we use non-opioid medications.
See our sedation monitoring technologyHow should I prepare for sedation?
Your sedation consultation covers everything you need to know, including how to prepare beforehand and how to arrange getting home afterwards.

Can I really get a crown in one day?
Often, yes. With CEREC, we take a digital scan of your tooth, design your crown and mill it here in the office. The crown itself is ready in about 45 minutes, so in many cases there's no temporary crown and no second visit.
Read our same-day crown guideDo I have to bite into impression material?
Usually not. A small intraoral scanner takes a digital impression of your teeth, so you can skip the traditional impression trays that many people find uncomfortable.
Read our same-day crown guideDo you use digital X-rays?
Yes. Our digital X-rays use very low radiation, can be enlarged on screen to show you the details, and can be sent securely to your insurer or a specialist.

It gives us a 3D view of your jaw, so we can plan dental implants with precision before treatment begins.
Explore our technologyDo you use dental lasers?
Yes. Our dual-wavelength Fotona laser helps with gum therapy, root canal cleaning, small cavities and minor soft-tissue procedures. We use it when it's the right tool for your tooth, and we'll explain why.

Our in-house 3D printer makes digital models, night guards, implant surgical guides, flippers and immediate dentures.

Replacing and repairing teeth, planned and placed by experienced dentists.
How does dental implant treatment work?
It starts with a consultation and a 3D scan of your jaw. The implant is placed and then fuses with the bone over about 4–6 months. Once it has healed, your custom crown is attached. IV sedation is available if you'd like it.

Dr. Anthony Wong is an implant surgeon, an AAID Fellow and ABOI Diplomate, and has taught at UBC Dentistry since 1994. Dr. Farid Alenabi has completed 300 hours of advanced implant training and is an AAID member.
Meet our teamDo you do root canals here?
Yes. Dr. Alenabi has performed more than 10,000 root canals, including complicated and calcified cases. Most patients tell us a root canal feels similar to getting a filling.
Read our root canal guideDoes a sensitive tooth mean I need a root canal?
No. In our own words: “Not every sensitive tooth needs a filling, and a sensitive tooth certainly does not automatically mean that you need a root canal.” We look at the cause first and recommend the most conservative option that will work.
Read our tooth sensitivity guideRead about pulp hyperemiaWhat cosmetic options do you offer?
We offer Zoom in-office whitening, custom take-home whitening trays, veneers, tooth-coloured fillings, Invisalign and complete smile makeovers. We'll talk through what fits your goals.

Prevention is the foundation of a healthy smile, and of a healthier you.
How often should I have a cleaning?
It depends on your gums. Many people do well every six months, while others benefit from every three or four months. We'll recommend the schedule that's right for you.
Read why dental cleanings matterWhy do I need cleanings if I brush and floss?
Plaque that's left behind hardens into tartar within a day or two, and tartar can't be brushed away. Only a professional cleaning removes it, especially below the gumline.
Read why dental cleanings matterIs gum health linked to my overall health?
Research has linked gum disease with conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, and with pregnancy complications. Keeping your gums healthy is one meaningful way to support your overall wellbeing.
Read why dental cleanings matterWhen should wisdom teeth come out?
If your dentist recommends removal, the ideal time is usually between ages 17 and 20, before the roots are fully formed. We'll assess your wisdom teeth and explain whether removal makes sense for you.
